Wine Forgery – Fake Lafite and Penfolds discovered

on December 6, 2022

Wine Forgery is an issue at all price points – starting with Yellow Tail going all the way to high-end unicorn bottles

Three warehouses in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province were recently raided by authorities who found 40 thousand fake wines with labels belonging to Penfolds and DBR Lafite. The main suspect is currently facing criminal investigation for this act which has resulted into an estimated value over RMB 11 million lost revenue because consumers may no longer be willing or able buy legitimate products from these brands should they come across them on sale at a discounted price point–a perfect opportunity for criminals hoping there will eventually be demand once again when prices inevitably rise once more following last year’s global economic crisis.
